Questions

Answers on panels, chargers and repairs

Our breakers trip more than they used to. Should we worry?

A change in how often a breaker trips is worth investigating. It can mean new loads are crowding an old circuit, a connection somewhere is degrading, or the breaker itself is tired. We measure the circuit under load, find which it is, and give you a written price for that specific repair.

How many hours will we lose power for a panel swap?

Plan for most of a working day without electricity on the changeover itself. The date depends on the permit approval and the utility's disconnect appointment, so we confirm both before booking and give you plenty of notice to plan around it.

We just found a Zinsco panel in the garage. What now?

Treat it as a priority project rather than an emergency. Zinsco and Federal Pacific breakers have a track record of failing to trip, which leaves circuits unprotected. Book the free estimate; we will look at the panel's condition, explain the replacement and leave you a written figure.

What counts as an electrical problem that cannot wait?

Anything hot, smoking, sparking or smelling of burning, a panel that buzzes loudly, or half the house suddenly without power. Switch off the affected breaker, keep away from it and call us; during working hours these jump ahead of scheduled jobs. If there are flames, call 911 first.

Do you charge for the estimate?

No. The in-home estimate costs nothing. We use it to see the panel, the wiring route and anything unusual about the house, then we leave a written figure you can take your time over.

Is our garage suitable for an EV charger?

Most are. The deciding factors are whether the panel has capacity to spare and how far the cable has to travel. On big lots with detached garages that run can be long, so we measure it at the estimate and price the charger with the right cable size, or the panel work that has to come first.
